After five years of the Thinking Digital Conference, we have amassed a sizeable library of some fabulous conference videos. This is the first in a series of highlighted talks in our archive and we’ll start by reviewing the most recent Thinking Digital in May 2012.

Wednesday Early Morning, 30 May 2012

What was it like to work with Steve Jobs? Ken Segall, the author of Insanely Simple gives some great insights about his time working with Apple and Steve Jobs in this opener to Thinking Digital 2012.

Professor Paul Watson has been hugely successful in advancing Newcastle University’s computing research agenda. In his talk here he highlights a small slice of the terrific work being done by the Social Inclusion in the Digital Economy (SIDE) Project.

Adrian Hon is a British new media hero. He details here how he successfully used Kickstarter to help finance the creation of Zombies Run - one the most critically and commercially successful iPhone games of its kind.

Sweden’s Magnus Lindkvist is a rock-star trendspotter. We have been trying to bring Magnus to Newcastle for years and he didn’t disappoint in his stand-out talk here about how to think about the future.

We just wanted to let you know that TEDxHousesofParliament (TEDxHoP) is happening this week on June 22nd.

TEDxHoP will delve into democracy in ways which will surprise, delight and challenge you, with the theme being “Democracy”.

This TEDx event will take place at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London with the day beginning at 12 noon in the historic Banqueting House on Whitehall, location of the execution of Charles I, and finishing in the Palace of Westminster at 10pm.

TEDxHousesofParliament is curated by TED speaker Jon Drori and co-produced by Herb Kim.

Odimax who were one of the first Ignite100 teams, have created an infograhic from #TDC12 using data collected through their social media management tool.

The infographic shows 10 interesting facts about #TDC12, including that probably unsurprisingly Twitter was the most active social media platform, and only 1% of people used Blackberry and 0.5% were in Windows.

The Thinking Digital Startup Competition & Panel (register by 2pm at Gateshead College) - this class is led by Paul Smith of the Ignite100 startup accelerator. We’ve got 6 fabulous startups that we picked to compete from over 40 entries from around the UK. Preceding this is a panel discussion about the heaven & hell of startups including Foursquare, The Next Web, Mixcloud & Newcastle’s Love Your Larder.
What’s Trending in Social Media (register by 2pm @ Tyneside Cinema) - this class is led by Katie Moffat who has put together a spectacular panel including Christian Payne, Will McInnes, Stephen Waddington & Jas Dhaliwal. We’ll be looking at how people are using social media effectively today and where this market is developing for tomorrow.

Thinking Digital 2012 is Nearly Here!

So the fifth year of the Thinking Digital Conference is nearly upon us.

Every year we do a video opening ident and this year’s version looks set to be the best ever. It’s been created by Loday Gonpo and the teams from Fourth Dimension Video and Raw Audio who are all involved with the Teesside University Digital City Fellowships programme.

The above is a screen shot and we really look forward to unveiling it on Wednesday, 30th May at 9am :-)

Thinking Digital University - Where to be at what time

If you haven’t yet read the information email that we sent delegates yesterday, here is a run down of how Tuesday’s Thinking Digital University will proceed.

12:30 - Registration at Gateshead College

Registration for all workshops except “Whats Trending in Social Media” (which will be at The Tyneside Cinema) will open at Gateshead College from 12:30. If you are attending “Gadget DIY” or the “Flame Workshop”, make sure you have registered no later than 13:00.

13:15 - Workshop Bus Departs from Gateshead College

If you are on the “Gadget DIY” or “Flame Workshop” you will be picked up by bus from Gateshead College at 13:15. Please make sure you have registered before this time.

13:30 - Registration at Tyneside Cinema

If you are on the “Whats Trending in Social Media” workshop, you need to go to the Third Floor of the Tyneside Cinema to register for your workshop. Attendees of the “Whats Trending in Social Media” workshop do NOT need to go to Gateshead College.

14:30 - All workshops begin

17:00 - Workshops end and opening party begins at The Waterline
